BIM Implementation

19/09/2018

The new technologies have been developing forward extremely fast. If you do not start benefiting by them in your everyday work as soon as possible, the competitors will get ahead of you very quickly because the efficiency you can achieve is quite significant.

The graph illustrates the technological development and efficiency in the process of design and creation of project documentation. In the beginning the drawing was manual and gradually it has evolved and currently, BIM is the actual technology. The efficiency rises in time but there are falls as well. You can see by yourself that firstly BIM efficiency dramatically goes down. In long terms, after the foundations of BIM technology have been laid, its efficiency will certainly increase.

Everyone should clearly understand that it is a long and hard process that is to be carried out from the beginning to the end without any interruptions.

Strong will and patience are necessary because BIM implementation is a process and not just a one-time act. The stages of BIM implementation have to be realized consecutively in a logical sequence. You cannot skip a step because it will lead to different problems in your future project work.

Do not be mistaken that this process can be finished within a couple of weeks. The stages you have to follow are neither few nor quick. You have to start with staff training, transfer of the company standards to BIM, creating BIM templates, BIM database, etc.

Implementation of BIM technology is an investment in the future of your company and staff. Your investment will not be paid back immediately after the first or second project. You might need even ten ones before there are a financial result and good organization of this new process. And to obtain maximum efficiency, dozens of projects are necessary for it; it is not a process for a couple of months.

Implementation of BIM is only the beginning. This technology and process, like all new things, have to be improved and well-managed so that they work better, faster and more efficiently in the future.

Automation in the world of technologies is getting the more important and bigger part and gradually takes the place of people. Technologies in the building industry are no exception. More new technologies and means for optimum and automatic work are used in the design process. For example, the software program Dynamo for Revit, the technologies AI and Machine Learning can generate options for floor-planning of halls, whole buildings, etc.

What do you think the next technology will be which will replace BIM nowadays?
